Nepal Plane Crash

On sunday, 15.01.2023 a plane carrying 72 people on board crashed near an airport in central Nepal. At least 68 people are confirmed to have been killed in the incident and severely injured survivors have been taken to hospital. Out of the passengers, 53 of them were nepalese and the rest were foreigners. Accidents such as this one are not uncommon in Nepal due to its remote runways and sudden weatrher changes that can make for hazardous conditions. Previous incidents were in 2022 where 22 people have been killed and in 2018 where 51 people where killed. It's reported that the aircraft stopped transmitting position at around 5:12 and it was seen plunging from the sky around 11:00. I think that 's very sad to see something like this happen in today's world. Even though our technology gets better and better there might still be some accidents especially in places like Nepal. Although accidents like this happen travel by plane will still remain the safest way of transporting ...

Police chief fires grenade launcher inside his own office

The police chief of Poland, Jarosław Szymczyk, has been fired after an incident involving a grenade launcher that was given to him as a gift by Ukraine. On the 17th of December 2022 Szymczyk was reportedly injured when the launcher was accidentally fired. The circumstances surrounding the gift and the incident are currently unclear, but it has raised concerns about the relationship between Poland and Ukraine and the potential implications for national security. Szymczyk's dismissal comes amid growing tensions between the two countries, as Poland has recently accused Ukraine of interfering in its internal affairs . The incident has also sparked criticism of Szymczyk's judgment and leadership abilities and raised questions about the future of the Polish police force. It is not yet known how Szymczyk's dismissal will be addressed or what measures will be taken to move forward. In my opinion this is a very bizarre accident to happen. First of all how did a grenade launcher sent...

Giant hotel aquarium bursts

On december 16th 2022 a giant aquarium in Berlin's AquaDom hotel exploded. That caused over one million litres of water to spill into the hotel and to the streets. As well as that over 1500 fish that included over 500 species which were in the aquarium have died. The whole construction of the object cost about 12.8m euro. The hotel opened in 2003 and got a Guiness World Record for the world's largest cylindrical aquarium. The cause of the incident is uknown as no people have been charged or arrested for causing it to shatter but there are speculations that it could've been caused by the -6 degrees Celsius temperature during the night.  I think that this a pretty big tragedy. A great accomplishment of construction that ended up in the Guiness World Record books got completely destroyed and by that a lot of money went to waste. This will also have great costs not only for the hotel but also for Berlin itself because a big amount of the rubble and water got on the streets a...

COVID-19 in China

Three years ago the COVID-19 pandemic started in Wuhan, China. Not long after the virus spread out all around the world and killed many people while doing it. Since then most countries have adapted and almost overcome the crisis and so was thought China. But unfortunately their regulations and vaccination rates were going lower and lower which made the virus there stronger than ever. China has recently set a new no-covid policy which basically restricted it's citizens to leave their houses. They even have welded shut many apartment entrances with metal to make sure it's residents follow the new rules. But a couple days ago this idea was shown to be dangerous as almost a whole building was burnt down that resulted in deaths of more than 10 people. Since then Chinese citizens have started to protest the extremist ruling of the government and protest other aspects of their politics.  I think that the Chinese government is not good for it's people. They have shown in the past ...

Polish president prank called by fake Emmanuel Macron

On the 3rd of November 2022 the polish president Andrzej Duda was called by a person claiming to be Emmanuel Macron, the president of France. In reality he was speaking to infamous russian prank callers Vovan and Lexus. This is the second time they have called him, the first time being in 2020. They have also prankcalled multiple other world leaders before. In this conversation the russians were asking him about the recent missle strike that was in Poland. Their talk continued for a couple minutes before Duda realised the person on the phone wasn't really Emmanuel Macron.  In my opinion this is a very bad thing to happen. It not only shows the security problems and organisation problems in the polish government but also shows how easily the president can be fooled to believe he's talking to someone he has met many times before. Andrzej Duda has met Emmanuel Macron multiple times and still couldn't recognise through the phone that he wasn't talking with him. The strong ...

Theranos founder sentenced to 11 years of prison

In 2003, at the age of 19 Elizabeth Holmes started a company called Theranos. Later she dropped out of Stanford University to pursue the company full time. Almost 10 years later she started claiming to have invented a new blood testing technology that would be a lot easier, faster and cheaper than what we have now. Theranos raised over 945 million dollars from many famous investors like Rupert Murdoch, Larry Ellison or Betsy DeVos. The company became valued at 9 billion dollars soon after. In 2015 a Wall Street Journal investigation uncovered that Elizabeth Holmes wasn't using any new technology but a third-party testing device that had questionable accuracy that could be dangerous the patients. In 2018 she was charged with fraud as well as other charges and recently was sentenced to 11 years in prison and has to pay many. In my opinion what Elizabeth Holmes did is horrible. Not only she made people loose over 700 million dollars but also she endangered many people to health risks...

Inappropriate KFC promotion

On the 9th of November in Germany there is an anniversary of the Kristallnacht - the night in 1938 where Nazi-led attacks destroyed over 90 Jewish-owned businesses. On this day there are many memorial events reflecting Nazi Germany and their actions in WW2. Every person which had the KFC app installed or had other notifications from KFC was sent a message saying  "It's memorial day for Kristallnacht! Treat yourself with more tender cheese on your crispy chicken. Now at KFCheese!". An hour after this event KFC removed the message, apologised for it and blamed the automatic system which they use for sending notifications for holidays or other events. I think that this is sort of a funny mishap but not the historical event of course. This also shows how companies such as KFC use special occasions to make some extra money. They make promotions or ads which make more people to buy their products because it's a special day or maybe a good deal. I think that they shouldn...
